What is my public IP address?
Your public IP address is the internet-facing address that websites and online services observe when your device connects to them. It may belong directly to your router, a VPN or proxy, or a carrier-grade NAT gateway shared by many subscribers.
Unlike a basic IP checker, ShowMyIP asks independent endpoints around the world what address they see.
Why can my IP differ by location?
Some carriers, VPNs, and enterprise networks choose an egress gateway according to the destination, protocol, network load, or connection timing. This can make services in different regions observe different public addresses.
Different results can indicate CGNAT routing, multi-exit VPN behavior, proxying, or another form of geo-distributed egress.
How the multi-region CGNAT test works
- Complete one Cloudflare Turnstile check to prevent automated abuse.
- Your browser connects directly to 12 independently hosted AWS regions.
- Five rounds use 60 distinct API hostnames, encouraging fresh TLS and NAT mappings.
- Each AWS endpoint reports the source IP and selected connection metadata it observed.
- The table highlights regions that observed more than one address.
How to interpret the results
One address everywhere
No egress difference was observed during this test. This does not prove that your connection never uses CGNAT or another address.
Multiple public addresses
Your traffic used different internet egress addresses by region or round. Record the affected destinations and repeat the test later to distinguish persistent routing from a temporary carrier change.
Privacy and data handling
Results are returned directly to your browser. The application does not create user accounts or store scan results in an application database. AWS and Cloudflare may retain limited operational and security logs according to their service policies.
Turnstile is used for abuse prevention. Google Analytics is configured with consent signals denied by default. Never use an IP address as the sole proof of a person’s identity or location.
Frequently asked questions
Can this list every address in my carrier’s CGNAT pool?
No. It reports only addresses actually assigned to your test connections. Unused carrier addresses cannot be discovered from a browser.
Does a different IP prove that CGNAT is active?
Not by itself. VPNs, proxies, enterprise gateways, and mobile carrier routing can produce similar results. The test provides evidence of differing public egress, not ownership attribution.
Why run five rounds?
CGNAT mappings can depend on connection timing and destination. Multiple independently addressed rounds improve detection compared with one request per region.
